A Small World

On December 17, 2005 I graduated from seminary. This was a glorious and difficult I left behind some of the greatest friends and teachers that life could offer. Gerald Bray who taught me church history and Latin, supervised my master's thesis, and allowed this fledgling scholar to be his teaching assistant was the foremost of these. It saddened me to leave behind such friendships. Or so I thought I was leaving them behind.

Tonight, I read this news from Highland Theological College in Scotland where I am directly pursuing my PhD:

Professor Paul Helm and Dr Gerald Bray have joined the staff of Highland Theological College UHI in a part-time capacity. Both are well-known scholars in the Reformed tradition with many publications to their names.

Professor Helm is a philosopher who formerly taught at King’s College, London, and at Regents College, Vancouver. Dr Bray taught at Oakhill Theological College in London and more recently at Beeson Divinity School in Birmingham, Alabama. He is currently director of research for the Latimer Trust.

The new chairs will each supervise three or four PhD students and will also
teach two MTh modules (or BA hons modules) at HTC.

So Dr. Gerald Bray, my old mentor and good friend is hot on my heels! I cannot wait for dinners over strange foods and Latin lessons replete with the phrase, "Come on, it's so obvious...."

This only reaffirms my ever-growing notion that Scotland most definitely is the place to study theology......
